Family sponsorship

Bring your family to Canada for good.

Sponsor your spouse, partner, child, or parent for permanent residence. We prepare both sides of the file carefully to reduce the risk of refusal. Before you retain us, we confirm you qualify as a sponsor and tell you honestly how your file looks.

Overview

Reunite your family in Canada.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor close family members for permanent residence. Each stream has its own eligibility rules, income requirements, and evidence standards. We confirm you qualify as a sponsor before you commit, then prepare the sponsorship and the PR application as one coordinated file.

One thing worth saying plainly before any of the detail. Being asked to prove that your relationship is real is one of the more demeaning parts of this process, and almost everyone finds it so. It is not a sign that anyone suspects you. Officers are required to assess whether a relationship is genuine, and the only way they can do that is on paper. Our job is to make sure the paper says what your life actually looks like.

Who you can sponsor

The family class, in full.

  • Spouses and common law partners, applying from inside or outside Canada
  • Dependent children, including adopted children
  • Parents and grandparents through the annual sponsorship program
  • Super visas as a faster option for parents and grandparents
  • Other relatives in limited circumstances
  • Open work permits for spouses being sponsored inside Canada

How we work

A lawyer-led process, with our own software doing the assembly.

01

Initial consultation

Tell Josh about your relationship and your situation. You get legal advice on your actual circumstances, written next steps, and a flat fee for the work, before you commit to anything. We quote after we diagnose, never before.

02

Building the evidence

You gather the evidence and we organise it. Our software indexes years of messages, photos, financial records, and addresses, so nothing is missing and the dates line up. What that evidence shows about your relationship is a judgment, and a lawyer makes it.

03

A licensed Canadian lawyer reviews and files

A licensed Canadian lawyer reviews every page before it is filed.

Flat fees. Once you are a client, a reply within one business day. No surprises.

What to know

How sponsorship works.

  1. 01

    How long it takes

IRCC publishes posted processing times for spousal sponsorship applications made from inside and outside Canada, for dependent children, and for parents and grandparents. Our IRCC processing times guide tracks those figures daily, so check it rather than relying on a number on this page.

Those are the posted figures. In practice, the thing that most often adds months is not IRCC. It is a request for more evidence partway through, because something in the original file did not line up. A complete file at the outset is the only part of the timeline you control.

  2. 02

    First, the sponsor

Canadian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 or older can sponsor. You must not be in default of a previous sponsorship undertaking, and for parents and grandparents you must meet income thresholds for three consecutive tax years. We check your side before anything is filed.

  3. 03

    The relationship is the evidence

For spouses and partners, no minimum income applies, but the relationship carries the file. Officers look for a genuine, continuing relationship: shared finances, shared address, photos across time, communication history, and statements that agree with each other.

That last one matters more than people expect. Most files that run into trouble are not weak on affection. They are weak on consistency, where a date in a letter does not match a date in a document, and an officer notices before the couple does.

  4. 04

    Where you apply from matters

Applying from inside Canada allows an open work permit during processing, but limits travel and carries no appeal right if refused. Applying from outside keeps travel flexible and preserves the right to appeal. The right choice depends on where you live and your risk profile.

  5. 05

    Children, and a few others

Dependent children under 22, or older children who depend on you because of a condition, can be sponsored or included in your application. In narrow situations, orphaned relatives or a last remaining relative can qualify too.

  6. 06

    Parents and grandparents

The program opens in limited windows with far more interest than spots. When it is closed, a super visa keeps the family together with stays of up to five years at a time while you wait.

  7. 07

    What you are signing

Sponsorship is a binding financial undertaking: three years for a spouse, longer for children and parents. If your sponsored family member collects social assistance during that period, you repay it. We make sure you understand it before you sign it.

Why us

Why families work with us.

Relationship evidence done right

Officers weigh genuineness heavily. We organize your evidence so the relationship is documented beyond doubt.

Sponsor eligibility confirmed first

Income, past sponsorships, and your own status all matter. We verify everything before you retain us or pay a filing fee.

Inland or outland, chosen deliberately

Where you apply affects work rights, travel, and appeal rights. We pick the route that fits your life, not a default.

One coordinated file

The sponsorship and the PR application are prepared together, so the two halves tell one consistent story.

An honest read on your file

Some sponsorships are straightforward and some have a real problem in them: a short relationship history, a previous refusal, a gap in your status, an undertaking default. We will tell you which one yours is before you retain us, including if the answer is that you should wait.

Ask a question
What counts as proof of a genuine relationship?
Shared leases and finances, photos across the relationship, messages, travel together, and statements from people who know you as a couple. Quality and consistency beat volume.
How long does spousal sponsorship take?
IRCC publishes separate posted processing times for applications made from inside and outside Canada, and they move. Our IRCC processing times guide tracks them daily. The most common cause of additional delay is a request for further evidence partway through, which a complete initial file avoids.
Can my spouse work while we wait?
If you apply from inside Canada, your spouse may be eligible for an open work permit during processing. If you apply from outside Canada, they generally cannot work until the application is approved. This is one of the main reasons the inland versus outland choice matters.
Do I need to meet an income requirement to sponsor my spouse?
No. There is no minimum income requirement for sponsoring a spouse or common-law partner, or a dependent child, though you cannot be on social assistance other than disability support. Income thresholds apply to parents and grandparents, where you must meet them for three consecutive tax years.
What happens if the sponsorship is refused?
Outland refusals can be appealed to the Immigration Appeal Division within 30 days. Inland refusals cannot, which is one of the tradeoffs we weigh with you at the start.
What if we have been refused before?
A previous refusal does not bar a new application, but it changes how the next one should be built, because the officer will see the earlier file. Depending on the reasons, appealing or seeking judicial review may be the better route than reapplying. That is the first thing we assess.

Josh was incredibly helpful throughout two work permits and our overall immigration process, guiding all of us (including two different employers) every step of the way. He made complicated immigration topics easy to understand and helped us choose the best strategy for our family's needs. Now we're proud Canadian citizens raising our two kids in Montréal.

I'm glad I met Josh. He helped me with my Canadian Work Permit Visa and my husband's OWP. I was apprehensive at first, and I had a lot of questions, but Josh was always accurate and willing to help. He is an excellent professional, and it's clear that he cares about every client.

We worked with Josh on a work permit re-application after we had some struggles trying to get it ourselves. Josh was a pleasure to work with and helped us get our approval in a timely fashion. We hope to work with him again soon.

Every matter is different. Results vary, and past outcomes do not predict future ones.
